About the camp
Every Child Deserves a Chance to Laugh, Play and Just be a Kid
At Camp Soaring Eagle our mission is to provide the healing power of laughter to thousands of seriously ill children by giving them the opportunity to go to a medically supervised camp at no cost to the campers and families.
Camp Soaring Eagle runs year round, medically supervised, camping programs for children and family members from across Arizona with chronic and life threatening illnesses. Currently, Camp Soaring Eagle conducts six different types of camping programs: Illness Specific Camping Weekends, Sibling Camper Weekends, Illness Specific Family Retreats, Summer Travel Programs, Veteran’s Children Camper Weekends and Camp Outreach.
Illness Specific Camper Weekends:
Camper Weekends restore the resilience, the independence and the joy for seriously ill kids and help erase, for a weekend, the pain and isolation these kids endure the other 362 days of the year.
Sibling Camper Weekends:
The Sibling Camper Weekend lets well children within the family get away from their chaotic surroundings, make friends and hang out with other kids who are also trying to cope with a sick sibling. They feel special for the weekend having the chance to simply laugh and play.
Illness Specific Family Retreats:
When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, it directly affects the entire family. At Family Retreat Weekends, siblings and parents can share their feelings openly and honestly with other families going through the same kind of medical crisis while coming together to enjoy a much needed break.
Veteran’s Children Camper Weekend:
The Veteran’s Kids Camper Weekend gives kids on the home front a few days to relax, get things off their chest, and blow off some steam. We honor our Arizona soldiers who are sacrificing for their country by serving the children they leave behind.
In partnership with Cardon Children’s Medical Center and Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Camp Outreach brings the playful spirit of camping to children who are stuck in the hospital and to their families who are waiting in vigil. And throughout the year campers and families join us for sporting events, theatrical entertainment, and other group activities to maintain the friendships started at camp.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters we aim to provide fun and enriching camping experiences to 1600 children and family members in 2014. These are challenging times and our goal is high, but so is the number of deserving children who are suffering each day with serious illnesses. I sincerely hope we can count on you to help us send 1600 children to camp this year.
Thank you one and all who have supported Camp Soaring Eagle and helped us grow during these past few years. We couldn’t do it without generous supporters like yourself.
