Volunteer at Camp

Join the fun and make a difference for children with serious illnesses. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities at Camp Soaring Eagle. Are you energetic, responsible, compassionate and posses a great sense of humor? If so, we’re looking for volunteers like you.

Unit Leaders

The general function of the Camper Unit Leader is to provide the highest level of safety to the campers at all times. A Unit Leader must posses leadership qualities, be able to mentor campers and set high standards of conduct. Must be able to keep a high level of energy for extended hours and must be able to run for up to 18 hours per day. Unit leaders are accountable for assigned campers at all times. Must be able to observe and enforce all safety rules, provide guidance to assigned campers, provide input to medical personnel concerning their campers, and be a role model.


Unit Nurse

The general function of the Unit Nurse volunteer is to provide the highest level of medical care and safety to the campers. Must be an RN licensed in Arizona with current BLS provider status (required) and one year pediatric nursing experience preferred. ENPG or PALS provider status preferred. Must be able to be outdoors and on your feet for extended time periods in hot and cold weather conditions. Please email JMorales@campsoaringeagle.org for complete list of responsibilities.


Arts & Crafts Program

The general function of the arts and crafts volunteer is to assist the campers in a variety of arts and crafts projects and posses the ability to bring new fun and exciting ideas to the program. Must have basic crafts skills and be able to work with various materials to include glue, hot glue, glitter, paint and other materials. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. Must be able to be outdoors and on your feet for extended time periods in hot and cold weather conditions.


Fishing Program

The general function of the fishing volunteer is to assist the campers with baiting their hooks, casting and hook settings and be able to repair fishing equipment as needed. General knowledge of fishing and fishing safety is encouraged. Must be able to be outdoors and on your feet for extended time periods in hot and cold weather conditions.

Archery Program

The general function of the archery volunteer is to instruct Campers during their archery range session. Archery certification preferred, but experience with archery program will substitute for certification. Must posses archery skills that include range set-up, equipment set-up and maintenance and safety regulations. Must be able to supervise a minimum of 5 campers at one time and design and run a fun archery program. Must be able to be outdoors and on your feet for extended time periods in hot and cold weather conditions.


Equestrian Program

The general function of the equestrian volunteer is to assist the campers during our horseback riding session as a lead and spotter. Must be able to be outdoors and on your feet for extended time periods in hot and cold weather conditions. Must be able to withstand dusty conditions. Must like horses and be familiar with the basic rules regarding safety and be willing to observe and enforce them.


Lifeguard

The general function of the lifeguard volunteer is to provide the highest level of safety to the campers. Must be a certified life guard from a recognized program i.e. The American Red Cross, must know and observe water safety regulations, be certified in first aid care and CPR. Must be able to be outdoors and on your feet for extended time periods in hot and cold weather conditions.

All Camp Program volunteers must: be a minimum age of 18, be able to pass a criminal back ground check, be able to observe safety rules and enforce them, be a role model for our campers, be able to provide a rewarding experience to the campers we serve, have a positive outlook on life, have transportation to and from the camp program site, be able to spend long periods of time on your feet and be able to withstand long periods of time in hot or cold climate conditions.
