About the camp

Every Child Deserves a Chance to Laugh, Play and Just be a Kid

At Camp Soaring Eagle our mission is to give children with serious illnesses the chance to discover the healing power of laughter and sheer joy of play that sickness has too long denied them. We provide experiences filled with excitement, challenge and unimaginable fun all in a medically safe setting – at no charge to the campers and families.

Programs
Camp Soaring Eagle runs year round, medically supervised, camping programs for children and family members from across Arizona with chronic and life threatening illnesses. Currently, Camp Soaring Eagle conducts three different types of camping programs: illness specific camping weekends, family retreats and travel programs.

Camper Weekends:
Throughout the year we host illness-specific camper weekends at the Jackpot Ranch in Camp Verde. During these sessions our campers enjoy horseback riding, fishing, crafts, music, archery and boating and most importantly discovering in the process that they can do more than they ever thought possible. Campers travel to camp with our staff and medical volunteers by motor coach and remaining under the watchful eye of our 24 hour medical team.

Family Retreats:
When a child is diagnosed with a chronic or life threatening illness, the diagnosis directly affects not only the patient but the entire family. Our illness specific family retreats are held at the Briar Patch Inn located on Oak Creek in Sedona. This location is the perfect backdrop where families can take a break from the grinding schedule of tests, treatments and hospital stays and simply focus on their family. Our counselors and volunteer medical staff are on hand with family centered programming, scrumptious meals and 24 hour medical care so that these families can take a breath and discover the healing power of laughter.

Flying with Camp Soaring Eagle Travel Programs:
The travel programs are unique opportunities available to our older campers. Campers, volunteers and medical personnel travel to some of the finest medically based camps in the country including Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut, The Double H Ranch in upstate New York, and the Center for Courageous Kids in Kentucky to name a few. This is an opportunity for our campers to truly spread their wings as they meet kids like themselves from around the world with similar medical conditions.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters we aim to provide fun and enriching camping experiences to 1000 children and family members in 2012.  These are challenging times and our goal is high, but so is the number of deserving children who are suffering each day with serious illnesses. I sincerely hope we can count on you to help us send 1000 children to camp next year.

Thank you one and all who have supported Camp Soaring Eagle and helped us grow during these past few years. We couldn’t do it without generous supporters like yourself.
